Good Hope Recreation Center
Project Location - Silver Spring, MD
This project consisted of the demolition of the existing facility and the construction of a new, 13,720 square foot recreation center. The Center provides the Good Hope community with a new gymnasium, weight room, social hall, game and activity rooms, and a new parking lot. The project is LEED Silver certified through the US Green Building Council. Montgomery County Department of Recreation in partnership with the Strathmore will provide educational Art and Music activities in the new Recreation Center.
The Masonry building was constructed on an extremely constrained site. The building envelope consisted of CMU bearing walls with a fluid applied Henry air barrier system, a curtain wall and storefront glazing system, and a Sika Sarnafil roof. The project included multiple finishes such as VCT and carpet tiles in general spaces, ceramic tiles in the bathrooms, wood floors in the gym, athletic rubber floor in the fitness room and ground faced masonry walls. The project foundation was concrete strip and spread footings. The security on the project, by the owner, included PTZ interior and exterior cameras, door access controls, viewing monitors on site and at a central county location.
