Gaithersburg Middle School Aquatic Center
Project Location - Gaithersburg, MD
This project cocnsited of structural remediation work to an existing indoor aquatic center, involving shoring the existing façade and roof, while replacing load bearing masonry columns and concrete footings. The project was originally designed to be phased, however in effort to meet the accelerated schedule requested by the owner, Keller Brothers engaged a specialty engineer to design a shoring system to allow all exterior columns to be removed and reconstructed at one time, cutting the overall project time from 6 months to 2 months. The project also consisted of repairs to elevated concrete decks, which showed excessive deterioration, and all new storefront systems allowing more natural light into the pool area. Cathodic anodes were incorporated into all new work, to help slow future deterioration.
