  Weller Road Elementary School

      SILVER SPRING, MD

The Weller Road Elementary School modernization project consisted of the construction of a new two-story, 94,000 SF elementary school with 26,000 SF of renovations to the remaining portions of the existing building. The project included classrooms, a new gymnasium, a multi-purpose room with a performing arts stage, a new kitchen, and new main office/administrative areas. A daycare, Linkages to Learning Center and a new Health Service Center providing minor medical needs for the community are also located on campus.

This project is LEED Gold certified by the US Green Building Council. Nearly the entire roof is a green roof, utilizing planted trays over built up roofing. In addition, the project includes porous concrete pavement, and the HVAC system incorporates geothermal wells which harvest energy by utilizing constant ground temperatures, and efficient Energy Recovery Units (ERU) that recapture energy from the exhaust air - reducing energy consumption.
